Tiequan Zhang takes on Issei Tamura in UFC 144 on February 26, 2012 – UFC news
Chinese sensation Tiequan Zhang finally has his challenger for UFC 144 since according to the recent announcement made by Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), Japanese Issei Tamura is scheduled to take on Zhang in a non-title featherweight bout.
The fight was originally setup between Leonard Garcia, infamous as the ‘Bad Boy’, and Tiequan Zhang, the ‘Mongolian Wolf’.
However, due to the undisclosed sudden injury Leonard pulled himself out of the brawl. Issei Tamura, 27, has been in a total eight mixed martial art bouts and fights in the Japanese MMA organisation ‘Shooto’.
This will be the young man’s first ever UFC fight and it will definitely be a hard one for him since his opponent is not only enriched with experience but is also considered as a lethal submission specialist. Zhang is infamous for nailing his opponents by
applying a huge variety of submission moves and almost none of the targets had been able to break his submission manoeuvre.
In a total 17 MMA brawls the 33-year-old has been in to, he has won 15 and shockingly 12 of them by making the opponent submit. He collected the remaining three wins by knocking out the opponent cold. Tamura though will have the hometown advantage yet it
will not help him that much in the brutal octagon.
A glance at the stats of both men shows a clear difference between the two opponents. Zhang is not only much experienced than Tamura but also possesses the lethalness, agility, and above all the resilience level requisite for winning a bout in an authoritative
way.
Tamura, on the other hand, will fight his inaugural UFC bout. He has been in a total eight bouts and has won six of them. The only positive aspect visible in the young Tamura’s stats is his resilience level. In his five brawls he collected a unanimous win
over his opponent hence countering the knock out and submission attempts till the end of the bout.
Both men will collide in the octagon on UFC 144 which will be headlined by the bout between Frankie Edgar and Ben Henderson. This will be the first time in 12 years that UFC has conducted a main event show in Japan. The octagon will be set up on February
26, 2012 at Saitama Super Arena situated in Saitama city of Japan.
