Tiger Woods hits form to grab lead at the halfway mark of Australian Open

Celebrated Tiger Woods is probably experiencing a rare resurgence of his form and career at the latest Emirates Australian Open when he shot consecutive low rounds to finally grab the lead of the event by one shot. Pulling in yet another solid five-under,
67 on the rain soaked day at The Lakes Golf Club in Sydney, Woods demonstrated excellent control on his swings and short putts.
This is the first time Woods is leading an event since the third round of Chevron World Challenge last year where he blew away his chances going into the final round.
"I really played well," Woods said. "Even though I shot 5 under, it felt it could have been 8 or 9 deep. I think experience comes with managing myself and my game," He added. "I've been there a few times and I understand how to do it. All the things that
can happen, I've experienced a lot of it."
He is now poised at nine-under, 135, one shot clear of the home grown talent Peter O'Malley who knows the course like back of his hand. Aussies remember him as the player who took over Woods in World Golf Championships-Accenture Match Play Championship at
La Costa in 2002 in the opening round.
Woods has been struggling for more than two years, trying to turn the tide in his favour. He has not won a single event for the last more than two years and has now dropped out of the top-50 on the Official World Golf Rankings (OWGR) for the first time in
15 years.
Top Aussie player Jason Day is also in contention in the event after finishing for a 68 to finish two shots behind the lead. Day is playing in Woods group and has been a childhood fan of the 14-major-winner.
"He has more shots in the bag than me right now," Day said of Woods. "He hits some shots that made me go, 'Wow'. He is always in control and always composed."
It will interesting to see how Woods finishes his current engagement here at The Lakes before moving on to the ultimate challenge of the President’s Cup scheduled next week.
