Tiger Woods, Lee Westwood and Luke Donald eyeing the British Open victory
The American Tiger Woods is set to bag another major title at the British Open, while the two Englishmen, Luke Donald and Lee Westwood, are preparing for their first major victories when they will tee off at the Royal Lytham & St Annes Golf Club on Thursday,
July 19, 2012.
Woods recently said in a press conference that he is now completely fit to contend strongly at any event. That is the reason how he succeeded in registering three PGA Tour wins so far in 2012.
While talking about the course conditions, he stated that the current weather conditions such as the rains and the drenched field have made the course further difficult for the players.
"I think that shot-making creativity is paramount when you play a links golf course," he said. "And I think that's something that is taken away in the modern course design".
"Here you have so many different options and a five-degree wind change changes an entire golf course and changes your entire game plan. It's just everything is magnified," he added.
According to him, draw shots will get more distance rather than fading the ball on the drives.
"This is all something you're trying to figure out," he said. "Meanwhile, what trajectory are you going to hit the golf ball at? That's something I've always enjoyed".
In 1996, he won the silver medal at Royal Lytham for being the top amateur at the end of the British Open. Therefore, he has good memories about the venue and is eager to use them for his 15th career victory in major golf championships.
In the meantime, the world number one Luke Donald is also looking forward to a great competition ahead of him.
He won the PGA Tour as well as the European Tour money list title last year. Moreover, he surged to the number one spot in the Official World Golf Rankings many times.
However, he still is empty handed when it comes to major championships. Therefore, he does not want to wait any more and plans to outshine his opponents while using home-ground and home-crowd advantage in the United Kingdom.
Same is the case with Westwood. He came close to major victories several times in his career, but failed to take the trophy home each time. This time, he is confident that he can end his winning drought and list his name in the league of major winners.
