Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson or Rory McIlroy, who will win the Masters glory?
The golf lovers are waiting for the Masters Tournament starting this week. Most interestingly, all the followers are speaking about the prospects of the likely winner.
There are many players who can be the winner this year. Hundreds of the professionals and some amateurs are heading to the Augusta National Golf Club, to play the first major of the year, from April 5 to 8.
When there are players like Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson and Rory McIlroy, then the tournament is the hottest.
Hence, the Masters Tournament is the most famous golf tournament. Every single eye wants to see their favourites to play and record a win in Georgia.
However, winning the title is not so simple. The competition is tough and most of the players are in their full form. For spectators, golfers form is another appealing factor to see this year.
“I think it’s going to be the most wide-open Masters ever,” said putting coach Dave Stockton, “Luke Donald is playing well, and so is Justin Rose. Hunter Mahan has won twice”.
According to the putting coach, who has worked with most of the top golfers, the winner cannot be declared at this point.
However, on the other hand, he idealises Woods, Mickelson and McIlroy as the hottest contenders of the title. “I’d take Rory, Phil and Tiger,” said Stockton.
This assumption is justified. All three professionals are playing massive games and have delivered their best since January. They are also the proud winners of the Professional Golf Association staged events in 2012.
“I think certainly Tiger has got to be in the mix,” said Adam Scott “He’s playing well, and he’s won four times here. He knows what he’s doing. But you can say that about Phil, as well. There’s too many guys. But someone can come up and surprise, and hopefully
that’s me”.
Woods, the 36-year-old American is a 14-time major champion and also recorded three Masters wins. In the current year, he displayed a tremendous game and finished the Arnold Palmer Invitational on the top.
He scored 13-under 275 and competed well for the title. Similarly, his second best finish was at the Honda Classic, where he finished tied for the second position.
This year, Woods has improved his ranking as well and reached the 7th position in the Official World Golf Rankings.
Hence, displaying massive performances in most of the tournaments and achieving the 7th place, makes his position strong at the Masters.
Secondly after Woods, Mickelson is on a potential lead. The 41-year-old American has won four major titles in the past and has played well in 2012 as well.
He won the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am by scoring 17-under 269. He also finished the Northern Trust Open on the second position, faced defeat in a play-off mode.
In the Shell Houston Open, which was the final tune-up match before the Masters, Mickelson played a tremendous game and finished tied for the fourth position impressively.
After Woods and Mickelson, there are ample chances for the young Northern Irish professional McIlroy. He is a favourite worldwide and is boosting his performance day after day.
The 22-year-old has played only three mega events in the current year and finished all among the top-5. He is the winner of the Honda Classic, where he scored 12-under 268.
He currently holds the second world rankings and recorded the runner-up position at Accenture Match Play Championship and third at the Cadillac Championship.
There are ample chances for these three amazing golf players to achieve the glory of the Masters. However, they will have to face other tough challenging players. But still, the winner would be among Woods, Mickelson and McIlroy.
