Tiger Woods, a hot addition to the CIMB Classic this season
The world number one Rory McIlroy has no doubt overshadowed the 14-time major champion Tiger Woods in the last couple of years.
The American is no more the hottest player in the world, as McIlroy has taken his place in the sport.
However, Jason Dufner believes that Tiger’s days are not over yet. He still has plenty of game left in him and has the potential to reach the top of the Official World Golf Rankings once again.
McIlroy is currently in China, preparing himself to compete against some of the past major champions at the BMW Masters.
Meanwhile, Woods will be contending in Malaysia at the CIMB Classic, an event co-sanctioned by the Asian Tour and the PGA Tour.
The BMW Masters is no doubt a superior tournament in terms of featuring quality players. However, Dufner believes that Woods’ participation in the CIMB Classic will give a huge boost to the tournament this year.
There are only eight players from the top-50 in the world rankings who will compete in Kuala Lumpur.
"I think it's a great thing for this event and for the country of Malaysia to have a player of Tiger's calibre come and fit this event into his schedule," Dufner told reporters on Wednesday.
According to Dufner, when the tournament officials get confirmation from big names around the world, they can then expect a bigger crowd to appear on the venue course.
“As players we appreciate it because it makes the field and the event attract a little more media,” continued Dufner, who also partnered Woods in the 2012 Ryder Cup.
“You get more spectators out here. He tends to pull in spectators. A lot of people want to see him play some golf. There is no doubt about it, when Tiger is in the field it just makes the event better overall”.
A total of 30 PGA Tour professionals will tee off at the Mines Resort in Kuala Lumpur, on Thursday, October 25, 2012.
In addition to that, the top-10 players in the Asian Tour Order of Merit, along with eight sponsor exemptions, will also be present in the field this week.
