Chelsea’s Petr Cech, Manchester City’s James Milner and Arsenal’s Theo Walcott also feature in the Tiger Woods’ latest golf offering.
In what has to be labelled as a brilliant marketing move, Electronic Arts have decided to mix things up for their upcoming golf simulation title, Tiger Woods 13, by introducing a host of sporting superstars as playable characters.
Interest in the Tiger Woods series has been waning over the past few years with copies of the game selling in lower amounts. A number of reasons have been thrown around including the decline of the once great golfing legend, Tiger Woods.
With Tiger’s career on a downward spiral the name just does not have the same level of oomph as it once did and that seems to be reflected on sales figures as well.
EA apparently have seen the need to spice things up for the franchise and have reached out to a number of their studios and used the likenesses of other sporting superstars to liven things up.
Apart from Peter Cech, Wayne Rooney, Theo Walcott and James Milner there are a number of sporting stars from other sports that will be featured in the game as well. These include boxer Sugar Ray Leonard, footballer Marshall Faulk, Jeremy Roenick who is known
for his exploits in the ice hockey rink and Dwight Howard as well.
It seems that the plan is to attract sports gamers from other titles onto golf, by throwing in their favourite superstars. Rooney, Cech and Walcott will bring in football fans who will want to see what Rooney looks like swinging a driver and the likes of
Roenick, Sugar Ray and Dwight Howard will bring in interest from other sports as well.
The head of Blockbuster UK, James Morton was on hand to comment on the announced. He said, “This is the start of an exciting year for Blockbuster customers”.
He continued, “We will continue to provide customers with unbeatable content which no-one else can offer and are delighted to be able to reveal the pre-order extras that will be available with Tiger Woods PGA Tour though our continued relationship with EA.”
There is a catch, as is often the case with these things, and that is the fact that the extra ‘players’ will only be available as a DLC pack for those who have pre-ordered the game. EA have not commented on whether the character skins will be made available
to everyone after release, though it more than likely that they will be released after a few weeks or so.
Tiger Woods PGA Tour 13 is set to hit shelves on the 30th of March and depending on how consumers plan to purchase a copy of the game they could have a Premier League dogfight in the golfing world as well.
