Tiger Woods' presence at the Honda Classic likely to attract huge crowds
Tiger Woods' presence in the field of the Honda Classic after 19 years is increasing the level of fans' excitement to new highs.
Party time has just started and Woods will be receiving a huge applause for being at the amazing venue of PGA National Champion Course, Palm Beach Gardens in Florida.
"We were ready, so we haven't been overwhelmed," Ken Kennerly, tournament Executive Director, said. "But Tiger's impact has exceeded our very high expectations".
In 2011, the Honda Classic increased the number of fans to 111,000. Kennerly shared the interesting fact that the ticket sales have exceeded the expectations.
The officials of the tournament are planning to halt the weekend ticket sales to manage the huge crowd.
This year, after the confirmation of Woods in the field, the ticket sales have gone up steeply. The expected ticket sales will reach beyond 160,000 by the end of this month.
"It's something we're studying as a possibility," Kennerly said. "We want to make sure it's as enjoyable an experience as possible for everyone who attends".
It may be right to say that the surprising increase in the number of spectators is the result of Woods' participation.
His presence after 19 years is making the field more interesting and appealing. He had played at the Honda Classic in 1993, when he was an amateur.
Now, after turning professional, he will be giving his debut performance at this tournament, staged by PGA.
The Honda Classic is special for being played in Florida. Woods is Floridian and playing at his home course is going to be a refreshing experience.
Woods' fans of Florida are crazy for him. When there is an increased number of spectators on the course, the security plan has also to be revamped.
Officials are increasing the course security to prevent any harm to the players and specially Woods.
"We'll make sure extra security attention is paid to entry points away from the main gate and along the perimeter of the course," Kennerly said. "We don't want anyone jumping a fence to get in".
In order to make the tournament more successful, the number of officials from the Palm Beach Gardens Police Department is also expected to increase.
The Honda Classic is scheduled from March 1 to 4, at the PGA National Champion Course, Palm Beach Gardens. The spectators have already started flocking to Florida to attend the match.
