Tiger Woods' winless streak in majors continues - finishes tied fourth in Masters
Once again, the Masters Tournament witnessed Tiger Woods coming short on Sunday, as he failed to end his winless streak in majors since his US Open victory came in 2008.
Woods, who suffered a two-stroke penalty on Saturday, which made it really difficult for the American to challenge his rivals on top of the leaderboard, finished four strokes behind the playoff duo, Adam Scott and Angel Cabrera.
The 14-time major champion started his final round campaign with shared seventh position in hand. After conceding bogeys on the fifth and the seventh hole, it became almost impossible for the world number one player to make it to the top of the leaderboard.
After recording a birdie putt on the ninth hole, he reached the turn in one over. He then added another three shots to his scorecard, on the 10th, 13th and the 15th hole, to make a late charge, however, it was too late, and
he had to settle for shared fourth position in the end.
Talking to the reporters at the end of the tournament, he showed his disappointment for not being finishing the tournament on top of the leaderboard. He said that his putting was the main culprit behind his mistakes throughout the tournament.
"It's one of those things where this golf course was playing a little bit tricky," he said. "We had four different green speeds out there and I couldn't believe how slow they were the first two days. Yesterday, I couldn't believe how fast they were. And
then today, it was another different speed again."
In reality, he was quite better in his putting, as he finished among the top third in putting, as well as in greens in regulations. Experts believe that it was his driving technique that hindered in his way of getting to the top, as he finished near to the
bottom of the list, when it comes to hitting the fairways throughout the tournament.
Scott, in the meantime, took home the prestigious green jacket after defeating Cabrera on the second extra hole in the playoffs. After his win, he became the first Australian to record a victory in the Masters Tournament.
