Tiger Woods all set to win his first event after two years at Chevron World Challenge
Tiger Woods has finally decided to take on the offensive when he continued with his rampage at the Chevron World Challenge on the second day, pulling in a whirlwind five-under, 67 to surge to the top of the leaderboard through the halfway mark. Once shrouded
by the prospects of whether the once brilliant Woods will make the cut, the 14-major-winner is definitely making progress, leading a round in his third consecutive tournament. The time is finally ripe for the former world number one to post a victory after
a lapse of almost two years.
"I want the lead after four days," said Woods, "Two days is nice, but four days is even better. I know I'm playing better, and it's nice to see my position on the leaderboard equating to it. Two stroke-play events in a row I've played really well."
The second round demonstrated the comeback of a once fearless Woods where he pulled in five birdies, dropped two shots, fell in for a devastating double-bogey and made up the loss with two glistening eagles on the par-five, 2nd and par-five, 11th. He missed
a chance to pull another eagle at the 13th when the ball came to a painful halt on the lip. He is now leading the event by three shots over countryman Matt Kuchar and overnight leader K. J Choi.
Choi came out with his exceptional praise for Woods and cited it as the formidable comeback of the giant.
"To put it simply, today he played like an artist," Choi said about Woods. "It's pretty clear that he's really recovered and is back in his old form again, and he missed a few putts, but it was really good to see him play well."
Kuchar, who fell for a disappointing opening the previous day, carded a strong five-under, 67 on the second to stay in contention. He pulled in seven birdies and dropped two shots when the Sherwood Country Club returned to its normal windy conditions later
in the day.
Choi, who started off the event with five straight birdies on the opening holes on the first day, had a disappointing day on Friday, when he fell for an over-par, 73. His exceptional skills against the windy conditions will surely help in the proceeding
rounds over the weekend.
