  1. Al Sharpton does nothing but fuel the flames of racism.  He should just go away.  Shoal Creek is a private golf club with no black members.  My understanding is that it wasnt the clubs policy- They just didn't have any black members. Fuzzy put his foot in his mouth big time years ago during the Masters. To paraphrase, "they can serve fried chicken or watermelon or whatever the h**l it is they eat" when referring to the champions dinner. (The previous years winner gets to select the menu)

  2. She now has a 2 week paid vacation thanks to Al Sharpton. Tiger is her friend of many years and he knew she meant no harm and was not offended but of course Al had to make a big deal about it.

Throughout history more whites have been lynched than blacks, I am now offended by her comments.

  3. I think Golf Announcers are mostly un-educated in Journalism.

That word shouldn't be used on TV.

  4. Wow - I'm proud of you for asking the question.  Answers to your questions 1st: She was suspended for 2 weeks by the GC for her comments.  She wouldn't have been suspended had Al Sharpton not called them out on it.

    - Nick Faldo and Kelly were wondering what young PGA Tour players could do to compete with Tiger.  Nick joked that they could Gang up on Tiger for a while and Kelly added "Yeah, they could take him in a back alley and lynch him"

    - I bet the DUKE comment is about the popular North Carolina University and the lacrosse players situation with the black stripper and the rape accusations

    - Shoal Creek is a private club that hosted the PGA Chamption Ship in 1990 and the founder made comments that he would never admit a black member <they later admitted a black businessman to get off the civil rights groups bad side> A rule was enacted in 1991 by the PGA Tour... If you don't have rules against discriniation for membership then you can't have a PGA Tour Tournament>

    - Fuzzy was drinking after his round at the master where Tiger won in a landslide to grab his 1st major.  Fuzzy went on and on before making comments about fried chicken and collard greens as the winners dinner the next year - a crack about tiger being black and what he assumed most black people would serve I guess.

My Thoughts on the other peoples comments that posted:

I wasn't going to but it seems that no other minority chimed in so I will offer the opposite perspective than those here because I can relate...  I'm Black and I don't think she is a racist.  I just wonder one thing... why was the word "lynch" so close to her lips that she'd say it on air?  When was the last time any of you used the word LYNCH in a sentence?  I personally haven't used it at all in several years unless civil rights or slavery comes up in conversation <which is rarely>

1st:  Racism and discrimination are a problem until EVERYONE is outraged about a comment like she made <intended or not>.  If an inflammatory comment had been made about terrorism or against women or jews or anything else everyone would have been upset but because some people DON'T feel her comment was a big deal then there is not true equality yet.  <<< Ask yourself this if you are white.  If a young black man came to your door and knocked... he asks for your white daughter for their date.  He looks like a well dressed, well mannered educated young man - how do you feel about that?  Any issues????>>>>

2nd:  It's not about just lynching comment as the issue.  It's fighting each instance where people want to make racial comments and actions a norm and OK to say or do.  People should know that just because the terror act of lynching has gone blacks are getting killed or mistreated in other ways.

-Just 40 short years ago blacks were still being lynched... within MY lifetime.

-1986 the radio shock jock in DC, the grease man said about Martin Luther King Day "Kill four more and we can take the whole week off."

-1999 a black man was killed and dragged behind a truck by  whites in Texas,

-1999 the grease man again says of Lauren Hill after playing her song "No wonder they drag them behind trucks"

-Last year a black woman in WV was raped and detained in box for a week

-Nooses hung on the MD university campus

    -The JENA 6 situation

-2 same age teenagers have s*x, one black one white. The black young man is brought up on charges. He's a 3.8 GPA student with an ivy league scholorship and she is his age.  if they were both white or black there would be no issue right?

This country still kills or terrorizes black people and any instance that those attitudes are put on the airwaves it is EVERYONE's duty to make it clear that it's not OK.  Al Sharpton steps up to do it. Kelly may not have intended harm but people do feel as she said <even if she meant not ill will>. and until it's never said and if it is everyone is angry about it then it's just getting swept under the rug as racism gets more sophisticated.

  5. I think this has been blown out of proportion for Kelly Tilghman. However her two week suspension may not be the end of it. Their are powers out their that don't want this to be a reasonable incident, and it seems as though Golf week magazine is one of these! They put a noose on the cover of their rag. this form of yellow journalism is antagonistic, and really out of line for a professional sports magazine. Thank god we live in America, where even idiots like their editor can put images on their front page. However this is the same America where I don't have to buy their magazine!!!  I suggest a mass cancellation of all Golf week subscriptions. Let's not let Kelly pay the price for 1 greedy yellow editor's idea of democracy!     P.S. Shoal creek is the name of a golf course, and Fuzzy Zoeller is a golf announcer, and a golfer. I don't think Fuzzy is his real name. I think it's a nickname.

  6. That article is BS the second paragraph says he didn't hear what she said or know the context of it.  The first paragraph just sounds like he was refering to Duke as a racist teaching school, since the lacrosse team was accused of a rape of a black stripper that never happened and ruined the lives the five lacrosse players in the middle of that.  This article was wrote by someone who probley never watches golf and prays to Al Sharpton.  Kelly and Tiger are good friends, Tiger wasn't offened by her remark so nobody else should be.

Kelly Tilghman is on paid vacation for two weeks, probley still Hawaii.  She returns for Tiger's first tournament.
