Tiger Woods annouces his appearance in the Bridgestone Invitational
Tiger Woods is ready to end the self-exiled 11-week period from competitive golf. The former world number one will compete in the World Golf Championship-Bridgestone Invitational at the Firestone Country Club.
A seven-time winner of the tournament, Woods made the announcement on Thursday night via his official website and twitter. The website read, “Feeling fit and ready to tee it up at Firestone next week. Excited to get back out there!”
Woods’ swing coach, Sean Foley, who said that him and Woods would get back to work from Friday morning, further verified the news. It was Foley who a night ago made a statement at CBSsports.com that he was not certain about Woods'
perspective about competing in the final leg of World Golf Championships, due to his absence from practice sessions with Foley.
The 35-year-old has not swung his club since May, owing to his lingering knee injury. Woods strained his left knee during the third round of the Masters, which eventually affected his schedule for rest of the season. The veteran pulled
out of the Players Championship and later disappointed his fans at the US Open and the Open Championship by erasing the two majors off his schedule.
Apart from facing the wrath of the disappointed fans, Woods also saw his name slipping out of Top 20 in the Official World Golf Rankings (OWGR). To avoid a further decline, Woods decided to take part in the tournament, which will
take place next week at the same course which saw him crumble onto his knees. Woods played the worst four rounds of his career last season. He compiled a score of 18-over-par and finished 78th in the 80-man field.
Woods will start swinging his club from Friday morning to shed off the rust from his bones and definitely off his clubs, but a question still remains unanswered: the question that has the name of his caddie in the bracket.
After the infamous Woods- Williams’ breakup, the critics are eagerly waiting for the announcement of the next man to carry Woods' bags. Some say Woods’ boyhood friend Bryon Bell will make an appearance for the 14-major winner. However,
no official announcement on the matter has been made by Woods yet.
