Tiger Woods apologises for his misconduct during the Masters Tournament – Golf News
The fourteen-time major winner, Tiger Woods, has apologised to fans over his disdainful behaviour in reaction to his poor shot on the 16th tee during the second round of the Masters Tournament on Friday, April 6, 2012.
Woods used the nine-iron to make his tee shot. However, due to miscalculation or some other unknown reason, the ball landed in the bunker near the pin.
Filled with fury over the misplaced landing of the ball, he hit the club strongly on the ground, letting it slip out of his hands.
It did not calm him down and as his next move, he kicked the club to make it fall a couple of steps further in front of him.
He soon realised that he has let down his fans while reacting to the situation and came out with an apology immediately.
“I think we can officially say Tiger has lost his game and his mind right now,” Nick Faldo, the veteran TV commentator said when Woods kicked his club.
Woods said that he was frustrated about his overall performance in the tournament that eliminated his chances of winning another major title at the Masters.
“I certainly heard that people didn’t like me kicking the club – but I didn’t like it either,” Woods said. “I hit it right in the bunker and it didn’t feel good on my toe either”.
“I get frustrated at times and apologise if I offended anybody,” he added. “But I hit some bad shots and it’s frustrating when you can’t hit the ball where you need to put it”.
Woods also said that the tournament is almost over for him. The only chance he had to surge the leaderboard has been blown, whereas most of the other players are trying to consolidate their positions in the final round.
Otherwise, he has nothing to impress his fans who followed him on the course, for all three days.
“I’m so far back I definitely need help from the guys – and a spectacular final round,” he said.
PGA is also looking into this matter and Woods may suffer a penalty for the misconduct to stop such incidents in the future.
