Tiger Woods atop ‘Top 100 players to watch in 2011’ list
Tiger Woods, who turned 35, last Thursday, was atop the ‘Top 100 players to watch in 2011’ list that was revealed by the US PGA Tour Website, on Friday, which signalled what could be expected in the coming year. The fourteen-time
major championship winner, Woods, has been through a lot this year. After celebrating his 35th birthday, Tiger posted a message on his twitter that read, “Another successful trip completed around the sun! Thanks for all the well wishes.”
That was quite optimistic of the player, as this was the first time Woods went without even a single win in his entire career. Being optimistic is certainly a good thing, and when you are a professional golfer, you should be doing
just that. Apparently, in the middle of last year, Woods lost his optimism and his performance went down due to some extramarital affairs. Tiger posted his career worst score when he shot an 18 over at the Bridgestone Invitational. He stood at the 78th position
in a field of 80 men.
With the news of Tiger’s infidelity being used for media gossip, Tiger was ridiculed all around the globe. It is true that morally and socially, Tiger was wrong, but the golf champion was sorry for his actions. Being married to
Elin Nordegren, Tiger had extramarital affairs with more than twenty women. With everything coming out in the Open, Woods and Nordegren got divorced in August 2010.
Not only did Woods loose his wife, he also lost his number one rank that belonged to him for five years. European golfer, Lee Westwood dethroned Woods on October 31st and became the world number one. Surely, this was
disappointing for Tiger and he will be hoping to get it back this year.
Tiger has been in the news for most of his career, ever since he turned pro in 1996 at the age of twenty. However, being named atop the list, after a year of scandals and disappointing performance, is surely a positive sign for
the golfing cat.
Another positive sign for Tiger is that despite losing sponsors and not winning anything this year, Tiger is still golf’s richest player. The player topped Golf Digest magazine's annual list, for 2010, with overall earnings of
$74.2 million.
However, after doing away with all that, 2011 should be a better year for Tiger Woods.
