Tiger Woods back at world number one spot, ready to beat the 18 major wins record
Tiger Woods, a charismatic figure in the world of golf, is once again back to the world one spot and has yet again triggered the debate whether the aging star will ever be able to beat the 18-time grand slam winner, Jack Nicklaus.
Tiger Woods was facing a string of problems since 2008 but now he has clearly managed to regain his momentum. Last year, he won three PGA Tour events, and proved that he still has what it takes to be a winner.
After spending a successful season on the PGA Tour, he once again made stunning start by winning three of the first four PGA Tour events that he played, to surge to the top of the Official World Golf Rankings once again.
Following the dissolution of his marriage and injury issues in 2009, Woods saw a sudden downfall in his career after his ranking slipped from 1st to as low as 58th. However, given the recent events, the 37-year-old looks to take the world number crown back
soon.
A brief look at the events in the recent years, that put a drag on his performance, reflects how the 14-time major winner went through tough times. First off, his personal life became trouble for him after he got involved in a s*x scandal. The issue had
become so stressful for him that he decided to part ways with his wife. The issue came as blow to his golf career, keeping him off the course for months.
Another factor that troubled the 37-year-old Woods has been his chronic injuries. He was dealing with a variety of leg injuries from Achilles to hurting knee. Though he managed to win 2008 Open against fellow Rocco Mediate despite a debilitating ACL, he
could not refrain from revealing that he had been playing with a painful leg.
Despite the fact that woods has managed to bounce back following his recent victories on the PGA Tour and regaining the world number one spot, there have been opinions about his battle against the 18-time major champion, Jack Nicklaus.
Many golf experts believe that Woods has now completely returned to his winning form. In the meantime, his critics believe that he still has to prove that he has the capability to face the pressure in the major championships.
