When asked how he felt about his fitness, he said that it was, “better”, and, “It is what it is. This is a big event, and I want to be here and play”.
Woods missed Wells Fargo and Zurich Classic after the Masters and told the press that he regrets missing theses events.
He quoted, “The whole idea is that I peak four times a year and I'm trying to get ready for Congressional and I need some playing time. I missed playing last week [at the Wells Fargo Championship] at a golf course I truly love, but I really want to get out
there and play and compete”.
Woods will return to Sawgrass on Wednesday to practice at the back nine. Wood’s doctor told him to refrain from putting excessive stress on his knee, which went under surgery in 2008.
Following the instruction, Wood claimed that although he had not fully recovered, he would not miss the chance of playing on his most adored course.
Woods also talked about his intention to give his fullest in the Players Championship, despite the injury.
He said, “Well, same as always, try and win the event. Nothing has changed”.
The player who has never missed a cut at TPC, Sawgrass, added that he did not want to risk his health the way he did in the US Open, in which he broke his left knee but kept on playing until he won it.
