Tiger Woods’ bad luck continues in the Ryder Cup
Tiger Woods’ bad luck continued in the Ryder Cup, as he, paired with Steve Stricker, lost to the Europeans, Ian Poulter and Justin Rose in the Friday morning foursomes.
Throughout the match, it seemed as if Woods was more interested in hitting the ball out of the bounds, rather than hitting the fairways.
Making his first tee shot of the tournament, he smacked it to the Ted Ray hospitality village on the course.
Four holes later, he once again went way out of the correct path and the ball landed on a cart path, besides the fifth fairway.
In the meantime, the Europeans won the second and the fourth hole, while giving away the point to the US pair on the third hole.
Poulter and Rose stretched the lead to two holes with a par putt on the sixth hole. The seventh hole once again saw Woods go wild, as he struck Chicago's Brian Vanselow in the head on his tee shot.
However, Stricker made a beautiful second shot and gave another chance to Woods to make a good ending to the hole. The Americans managed to record a birdie in the end and decreased the deficit margin.
The back nine of the course also witnessed the European players dominating Woods and Stricker, as they earned three points against two lost holes.
Standing on the par-three 17th hole, it was essential for Woods and Stricker to make a birdie putt, in order to remain in the game.
"Tiger and Strick are a very good pairing and they are going to come out at us with all guns blazing,’ said Poulter, who was expecting a good comeback by his counterparts.
"When I saw Tiger and Strick [on the match list] I had a bit of a wry smile. Justin and I were pretty pumped to get out there and get that point on the board”.
However, the officials called off the match after both the pairs recorded par putts. Poulter and Rose shook hands with their counterparts with smiles on their face, as they won the match by 2&1.
"Tiger's [inflicted] two of my three Ryder Cup defeats and I didn't want another one," said Poulter. "I've got Justin's back and he's got mine. He asks me to hole a putt, I'm going to go and deliver”.
