Tiger Woods beats Rory McIlroy, advances in to semi finals
One of the most anticipated match up of the Turkish Airways World Golf Finals between Rory McIlroy and Tiger Woods did not provide as dramatic as people would have hoped for.
For the Northern Irishman, it was just playing for pride. He had lost his previous two encounters and was out of the semi-final contention.
The world number two, Woods, however, had the chance to progress into the knockout stages after he won against Kuchar.
In the end, Tiger Woods defeated the world number one by a comfortable margin of six strokes. Tiger will now face another European in the semi finals – Justin Rose.
Woods shot a magnificent 7-under 64, whereas Rory McIlroy had one of the worst days in golf. Rory hit his first tee shot straight into the water and never really recovered from that.
"It felt good and I really hit it good out there," said Woods, who won just a half-point from four matches in the U.S. team’s loss to Europe in the Ryder Cup last month. "My game is starting to turn around a bit and I am beginning to hit it like I did at
the start of the year".
The world number one was cheered by his girl friend, Caroline Wozniacki but unfortunately he could not come up with a commanding performance.
The current PGA Champion is not at all disappointed with his outing at Antalya, as he only came here for experience and fun.
"I just came here because I have never played in Turkey and there’s a lot of good players here, and I thought it would be a fun week and it has been," McIlroy said.
The world number one was the only player at Sultan course to not to shoot a round in the 60’s.
Justin Rose, on the other hand, defeated the current US Open Champion, Webb Simpson as he booked a place in the semi finals.
"It was a good game out there," Rose said. "(I) ended up 9 under and Webb was 5 under but it was a much closer game than that".
