Tiger Woods’ caddie Steve Williams on board with Adam Scott for the US Open
Tiger Woods’ caddie, Steve Williams will be carrying bags for Adam Scott in the US Open since Woods withdrew from the competition due to his lingering knee injury. The duo hit the Congressional Country Club on Monday for practice
sessions.
Hype was created when Scott and Williams stepped onto the first tee in the morning hours. At first glimpse, press standing close-by reckoned the two were involved in a friendly gesture, but when Williams pulled out a club from
the bag, the press became curious. On inquiry, the duo replied that the partnership was temporary, as Scott was looking for a caddie and Williams was free, since Woods was not fit enough to compete.
Woods has been out of competitive golf since the Players Championship, in which he incurred a knee injury while taking a shot. The sore knee and the Achilles problem, as Woods explained about his injury in his several statements,
forced him to take an early withdrawal from the tournament.
Woods has never missed the US Open after turning pro, but this is the first time that his physical condition has forced him to be a spectator to the event.
Looking at the situation, Williams offered his services to Scott, who is currently the hottest Aussie golfer in the field. The 30-year-old has won seven titles on the Professional Golf Association Tour and equal number of the events
on the European Tour. His recent win includes Valero Texas Open that took place in the third week of May 2011.
When asked to comment on his plans with his new caddie, Scott said, “No. He is Tiger's guy and that's how it is.”
The Aussie had a certain tone while revealing that and said that there was no chance of him being partnered with Williams, as he was Woods’ long-term caddie.
Similar sentiments were found in Williams’ statement. The Kiwi resident said, “I haven't caddied for another player since I started with Tiger.”
The US Open kicks off of on June 16, 2011 at the Congressional Country Club, Maryland.
