Tiger Woods closes his bid for the Abu Dhabi Golf Championship on a strong note-Last part
Woods fell for another bogey on the opening hole of the back nine and remained birdie-less for the rest of the day. Meanwhile McIlroy closed his round with four birdies and a bogey on par-three, 7th to fall short of one stroke to overpower Rock.
"I was just a touch off," said the former World Number One. "But Robert played great. He made a couple of key up-and-downs and a couple of beautiful iron shots down the stretch."
Woods was only able to hit one fairway on the back nine and just six greens in regulation in the final 18-hole stretch of the day.
Will this be the most anticipated turnaround of the former world number one and will he be able to go all the way to win 18-major titles in the remaining course of his career? Is probably the most asked question in the sport for the moment.
Several of the grizzled veterans from across the world have given their opinions time and again, about the anticipated resurgence of the legendary Woods.
Nick Faldo came out with his opinion just before the Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship and said that Woods has lost his confidence and will never regain his former glory.
Faldo said, "Tiger would win a tournament, disappear, come back, and round one [he played] without rust. He'd come back and shoot 63 on day one, holing every putt. All that is not as easy [for him] as it used to be. He's fighting a lot of things. How good
is his knee? How good is he technically? How good is his confidence? His concentration is broken".
Then there was the International Captain Greg Norman just ahead of the President’s Cup who came out with his opinion that Woods will never win a single title let alone winning a major in the rest of his career.
Woods stellar performance in the final Four-ball session at Royal Melbourne forced the Aussie to retract his comments.
Regardless of the discouraging comments from his colleagues in all this time, Jack Nicklaus, the “Golden Bear” of the sport has always respected and encouraged the former world number one and hopes that he will go all the way to break his record of 18-major
titles.
Only time will tell if Woods will be able to regain his top form to land another four major titles to crown himself as the invincible player in the history of the sport.
Woods currently resides at his newly bought Jupiter Island home along with his two sons. His new home if equipped with state-of-art practice facility.
He has also earned back a few of his previous sponsors who decided to ditch the former number one after his extramarital affairs broke the headlines.
Woods also switched his sports management agency to Excel Sports Management and also hired caddy Joe Lacava on his side.
