Tiger Woods confident for another victory at the PGA Championship
In 2009, the golden era of the 14-time major champion Tiger Woods ended and new players started appearing on the golfing scene.
That was a time when Woods suffered a knee injury in an accident and he started bringing changes in his swing technique.
Moreover, his s*x scandal shook his life and it led to the dissolution of his marriage in the end. Therefore, the legendary Woods was no more a threatening element in the tournaments.
He lost the world number one spot to Lee Westwood in 2010 and kept on falling from grace, as he spent two years without a professional win. In the meantime, the game of golf produced 16 different major winners in a row and the streak continues.
Woods managed to make a comeback this year with three victories on the PGA Tour. However, this is not what his fans want from him. In fact, it is a major victory that will earn him the status of the king of the game once again.
"Winning golf tournaments makes it successful, but winning a major makes it a great year," stated the four-time PGA champion Woods. "You can go from having a 'so-so' year to all of a sudden winning one major and ... it's a great year because you're part
of history when you do something like that".
Woods finished tied for the 40th position in the opening major, Masters Tournament. However, he did manage to record good finishes in the remaining two major championships that he played.
He entered the final rounds of each of the last two majors with strong positions on the leaderboard. However, he failed to keep his momentum going in the final moments of the game.
He tied for the 21st position in the US Open and stood third in the Open Championship. Still, he believes that the time is not far away when he will be known as the 15-time major winner.
While heading for the final major event of the year, PGA Championship, he gave himself a timely boost with a positive finish at the WGC – Bridgestone Invitational. He carded a four-under par 66 in the final round to share the eight spot.
"I feel very good about where I'm at. I'm excited about it," Woods said. "I putted well the last two days, which was good. My tee-to-green game was, I thought, pretty dialed in".
