Tiger Woods confident of his form ahead of the Frys.com Open – Golf news
Tiger Woods seems to have taken charge of his lingering vows, at least as far as his statements are concerned, and hopes to start off the latest Frys.com Open with a rejuvenated spirit. The event scheduled for this week will have Woods on the field, who
will be returning to mainstream golf after a break of several weeks.
Woods said, “The major overhauls are done. I've done all that work. Now, it's just fine tuning.”
The American golfer might have hit the right note just before the beginning of the event when he pulled a record breaking 62 at the Medalist Golf Club in Jupiter, jotting down a new course record. He was out of the limelight for a whole month in September,
after failing to qualify for the FedExCup Playoff Championship primarily because of his slump on the money list.
The former champion added, “I don't need to worry about whether I have the club here or here or here or here or here. I've done all that legwork, and now it's time to play. And that's where I needed to get to, which I hadn't been able to because I wasn't
healthy enough to get there.”
Woods has now dropped out of the top-50 from the Official World Golf Rankings (OWGR) for the first time in 15 years, and is without a win for almost two years. He won his last title at the Australian Open in 2009, and has since been struggling to post more
victories.
Ticket sales for the Frys.com Open have soared to an unprecedented level which is quite unusual for a Fall Series event. Woods’ absence from tour events for consecutive months in the current season has delivered a severe blow to the financial earnings of
PGA, something which has been openly conceded by tour officials. His return has rekindled the interest of fans to walk the fairways alongside the 14-major-winner and possibly anticipate trailblazing golf from him.
Woods will be spending a busy schedule for the rest of the year as he is one of the players at the President’s Cup team in November, and will also be playing in Australia later on.
Woods started off the year ranked Number Five on the OWGR, but his constant bad performances pushed him down the standings. He has not been out of the top-50 since the start of his career in 1996, where he thrashed consecutive fields as a rookie. He finished
for a joint fourth in Masters in Augusta, but suffered a left knee injury.
He returned to play at the Players Championship against doctor’s advice and severely aggravated the injury. The 35-year-old later went in rehab and missed two back-to-back major events on the calendar. He then returned for the PGA Championship only to miss
the cut.
