Tiger Woods confident of performing in the Arnold Palmer Invitational - PGA Tour Update
The Professional Golfer’s Association Tour event of the Arnold Palmer Invitational is going to start today at the par-72, Bay Hill golf course in Florida. The total prize money sanctioned is US$ 6 million and many players are charged up before the championship.
Former world number one, Tiger Woods will again be in the lime-light for winning the championship. Woods has already won this championship back to back in 2008 and 2009. He is ready to take up the challenge of all the contenders on the field.
Woods has been through a rough patch since the news of his personal indiscretions was disclosed two years back. Critics since then have been writing various articles about the player, which has let him down. His swing was also wayward, which added fuel to
the fire for him.
As misery continues with all the golfers, this also happened with Woods. Bay Hill is one of his favourite golf courses and he is confident of making a come-back in this tournament. The 35-year-old player performed well in his last tournament and finished
among the top-ten places, as he carded a round of six-under par, 66 in the final round which was a morale booster for him.
After playing the practice round, Tiger said, "They are bigger changes, and it's taken a little bit of time. Then again, I've showed some good signs of late. And I've had good practice sessions. So I'm really looking forward to this tournament."
Tiger has been working hard with his coach Sean Foley on his swing. There have been many changes in his swing and now it looks like his momentum is back. The current world number five is confident that he will show his class once he gets on the field. The
fourteen time major winner is also hoping to add another PGA Tour victory to his career to get close to record holder legend Jack Nicklaus.
Dustin Johnson and Gary Woodland will be playing alongside Woods in the first round. All three players average more than three hundred yards in their driving distances and it will be exciting for the gallery to watch them play.
The 26-year-old Woodland, who recently won his first title playing on the PGA Tour, is confident of continuing his winning streak in this tournament. He won the Transitions Championship and had a superb four round score of fifteen-under par.
As for Johnson, he finished at the second spot in the Cadillac Championship two weeks ago. He played well during all the four rounds but failed to grasp the winning opportunity which came his way.
The defending champion from South Africa, Ernie Els will be hoping for a title defence this year as well. Els is playing well this season and is hoping to win an event before the major tournament of the Masters, which starts next month.
It will be a field with some of the top ranked golfers competing in this event. Ireland’s Graeme McDowell and Phil Mickelson will also be among the contenders.
