Tiger Woods confirms Open appearance at St Andrews
He may have been laid low with a neck injury, a recently departed swing coach and seemingly a partially departed swing, but Tiger isn't done yet. Though there's no word on when he expects to make his return to play, Woods has added the Open to his official schedule.
The Open takes place between July 15th and 18th at St Andrews, a course Woods has already conquered twice in the past, in 2000 and 2005.
Woods' attempt to make a comeback from his s*x-scandal has been hampered by disappointing play since his return, and more recently he was forced to pull out of the Players Championship with what turned out to be an inflamed facet joint in his neck.
Though Woods expects to make a speedy recovery, there's no word yet on exactly when he plans to return to golf. The player has already committed to the US Open, which takes place at Pebble Beach between June 17th and 20th, but it would surely make sense for the 14-time major winner to get some meaningful tournament practice at an earlier competition.
But if Woods does elect to go in cold at the US Open he may still be capable of flummoxing his critics anew; Woods has won the major three times in the past, including in 2000, when Pebble Beach was once again the host.
In other Woods-related news, the 34-year-old's former swing-coach Hank Haney has been discussing his one-time pupil, insisting that Woods never gave any indication that the golfer ever took performance-enhancing drugs.
Haney also accidentally "outed" Woods, in revealing that the golfer's recent therapy had been for s*x-addiction. Though Woods was reported to have undergone treatment at a sexual disorder clinic in Mississippi, the golfer never officially confirmed the nature of his treatment, instead stating only that it was "personal".
Which means that now the news everybody had already figured out for themselves has finally been confirmed, it's worthy of column inches all over again. Way to go Tiger!
