Tiger Woods confirms his participation in Honda Classic on PGA Tour in March
Tiger Woods has now confirmed his anticipation in the Honda Classic on the PGA Tour, scheduled from March 1-4 and will be hoping to regain his top form in the event.
Former world number one started off the season with the Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship.
He decided to ditch the Farmer’s Insurance Open at Torrey Pines, a venue where he has won for a staggering seven times including the 2008 US Open.
For the moment, the 14-major-winner is anticipating a strong performance, if not a victory, at the WGC Accenture Match Play Championship at Doral, Arizona.
Although he has not been in good terms with the Accenture, a brand that decided to leave him in the middle of his post marital crisis, yet the former world number one knows the importance of the event, often considered as the biggest Match Play event on PGA.
His recent confirmation of the participation in Honda Classic has also raised several questions pertaining to the acceptance of appearance money.
The venue Palm Beach, Florida is close to Woods current residence at Jupiter Island, which probably can also be a strong reason for his participation in the event.
Woods said, "I heard great things about the Honda Classic. Now that I live here I want to play whenever possible".
The appearance fee is often strictly prohibited on the PGA Tour, although it is widely accepted by the European Tour and its subsidiary the Asian Tour.
European Tour officials often turn a blind eye to the appearance fee being paid to the players in order to lure in big names from the PGA.
Woods also accepted appearance fee for the season-opener Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship.
He said about the existence of appearance fee before the start of the event in Abu Dhabi,
"You know, I'd have to say yes, it certainly does. That's one of the reasons why a lot of the guys who play in Europe, they do play in Europe, and they do get paid. I think the only tour that doesn't pay is the U.S. tour. But, you know, a lot of the guys play all around the world and they do get appearance fees".
WGC events at Doral will be followed by the WGC Cadillac Championship before the former world number one will proceed to the Honda classic on the PGA calendar.
Woods won the Chevron World Challenge, the closing event on the PGA Tour. Since the event does not have a full PGA status, Woods is widely considered to be winless for the last more than two years.
Although he laments the idea that his victory at Chevron is not considered a mainstream success.
Woods is also facing the dilemma of final round meltdowns and has thrown away his strong performances over the weekend on the final day.
He lost to Robert Rock in the Abu Dhabi and yet again to Phil Mickelson in the Pebble Beach Pro-Am.
