Tiger Woods confirms his participation in the Wells Fargo Championship – Golf News
Tiger Woods will return in the field of the Wells Fargo Championship, following the three-week break that he took after the Masters Tournament.
Woods was among the favourites to win the Masters. However, he looked completely out of form and tied for the 40th position, the worst of his career at Augusta National.
Thereafter, he decided to take some rest prior to returning to action on the course. He said that he will not participate in any event in the month of April.
In addition to that, he also confirmed that he will be making his appearance in the Players Championship, scheduled in the very second week of the Wells Fargo Championship.
Last year, he was forced to withdraw from the event after he was diagnosed with the Achilles tendon injury he suffered during the first round.
He started feeling pain from the very first hole that he played. At that time, he convinced himself that the pain would go away with the progression of the round.
However, the pain started creating difficulty for him to continue his run in the tournament. Therefore, he announced his withdrawal from the event after the ninth hole.
Later, he took three months off to recover from the injury. Woods said that he still wants to take some rest before entering the field in order to get completely fit for the game.
"I'm going to take some time off and not look at the clubs for a while, and then get back after it," Woods said on his website.
He also talked about the club-kicking incident that happened during the third round of the Masters Tournament.
According to Woods, he made a mistake by kicking his 9-iron after making a poor tee-shot on the ninth hole.
"One thing I would like to say about the Masters last week is that obviously I got frustrated at times and know some of my actions were wrong, especially at No. 16," he wrote.
"The Masters means a lot to me, and I was trying as hard as I could. I'm out there competing. I grind every day, and my expectations are to do my best. It's very disappointing when that doesn't happen".
In 2011, he failed to appear at Quail Hollow because of a minor leg injury. The last time he participated in the event was in 2010, when he missed the cut after carding 153 in the first two rounds.
