Tiger Woods confirms to appear at the fifth edition of the Notah Begay III Foundation Challenge
The 14-time major winner Tiger Woods has confirmed to participate in the charitable Notah Begay III Foundation Challenge at the Turning Stone’s Atunyote Golf Course, slated to start from August 29, 2012.
According to the tournament officials, the format has been changed for the fifth edition of the tournament. The new format includes competition between the Asian players and the American professionals, named as the ‘East meets West best ball format’.
During a press conference, on Monday, at Turning stone, Oneida Indian Nation CEO Ray Halbritter and Begay confirmed the list of names who are participating in this year’s charitable event.
Moreover, he appreciated the professionals for taking some time out from their busy schedules on different tours around the world.
He said that the event has always succeeded in attracting some of the big names to appear and display their skills each year.
Therefore, it is a good sign for the event organizers to host an event that brings plenty of revenue for the Notah Begay III Foundation.
Apart from Woods, Rickie Fowler, K.J. Choi, Y.E. Yang, Charlie Wi, Danny Lee and Gary Woodland are some of the other top-notch players who have confirmed to participate this year.
In the meantime, LPGA members such as Cristie Kerr, Lexi Thompson, Yani Tseng and Si Ri Pak have also planned to contend against some of the best male golfers around the world.
“It is indeed a testament to Notah that his charitable event continues to attract the best golfers that professional golf has to offer,” Halbritter said.
While making the announcement of the names, Begay looked really happy and said that he was pleased when he came to know about Woods coming back to the event this year too.
He said that Woods is no doubt the best player in the world and the event gets a huge boost with his participation.
“Tiger is one of the biggest advocates (and) he thinks the facility at Atunyote is phenomenal,” Begay said. “The first year he played here he said those were some of the best greens he’s ever putted on”.
Woods won the 2009 edition of the tournament prior to his withdrawal in 2010, due to injury issues.
