Tiger Woods congratulates niece Cheyenne Woods over win in ACC women’s individual title – Golf news
Tiger Woods congratulated his niece Cheyenne Woods on Twitter for winning the ACC women’s individual title on Sunday.
He wrote, “My niece, Cheyenne, just won the ACC golf title by 7 shots! That's awesome, I'm so proud of her.”
Cheyenne is the daughter of Woods’ half brother Earl Woods Jr. She has been playing golf for quite some time, but on Sunday, she rubbed a seven-stroke victory in the face of her closest opponent Allie White.
The resident of Phoenix compiled a score of 5-under par 208 at the Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro, North California. With this victory, she became the third individual winner for her club, Demon Deacons.
The young winner spoke to the press after her victory. She said, “Today, I really felt confident all day and knew I could hit the shots that I wanted to. That was important on this course because the greens are so slick that you have to land the ball in
the right spots.”
On the other hand, Woods has not savoured a win in 16 months. The former world-number one won his last title in November 2009 at the Australian Masters. After that, there came a long pause of scandals and constant failures.
The reigning world number five saw his private life become chaotic when a local newspaper published a story of him having an affair with a nightclub waitress. The news led several women to come out and reveal their illegitimate relations with the golfer.
The tabloid caught fire when Woods made a confession in public terming all those scandals to be true.
Soon after that, all the major sponsors ended their deals with Woods. Deprived of family and fans’ love, Woods made a comeback at the 2010 Masters, but could not manage to win it. Eventually, he lost all the titles and slipped off the summit of world rankings.
Woods finished fourth in the 2011 Masters after several swing changes, but could not put an end to his winless drought. He has not been able to celebrate his victory, but certainly had an opportunity to marvel the triumph of his young niece.
