Tiger Woods decides not to play on the European Tour next season
Few years back, a trend started when players switched to the other side of the Atlantic to ply their trade. This was mainly done by European golfers, as they moved to US to play on the PGA Tour.
PGA Tour is more practical and it is also the richest tour in the world. Luke Donald, Lee Westwood and Rory McIlroy were first of the many who decided to play on the PGA Tour as well.
Recently, Tiger Woods also hinted that he might as well switch sides across the Atlantic and play on the European Tour.
This thought mainly came to his mind after the European Tour said that it will also be including the Ryder Cup in its official tour.
Tiger floated this rumour at the Turkish Airlines World Golf Finals but has now said that he will not be playing on the European Tour next season.
Woods said, "I'm not going to play the European Tour next year".
Former top ranked player will be starting his next season Abu Dhabi Golf Championship and if we count in four majors, along with four WGC tournaments that makes nine tournaments.
Woods will only need to play three extra tournaments in Europe to become a fulltime member of the European Tour.
However, Tiger feels that it would be asking too much from his body and, apart from that, the former world number one wants to concentrate on the majors for now.
"It's a bit much for me still," Woods said.
Woods has his aim set on the 18 majors won by Jack Nicklaus and he wants to emulate that in his career. This is the main reason why he will not be playing on the European Tour.
It will help get his act and focus together in the majors. "Certainly, I've had opportunities over the years, especially when it was at 11 events," Woods said.
"I was very close a couple times and could have taken membership up and played it. But still ... I enjoy playing around the world, and I still always will. But I am going to play this tour".
"My main concern was winning major championships, and I've won 14 of them, and I'm very proud of that".
