Tiger Woods disappoints at US Open, Web Simpson stands tall as the US Open champion!
Tiger Woods and the series of unfortunate events continue, as he failed to get the US Open title yet again.
The former world number one started off smooth and was looking promising in the early rounds with consistent play. However, it was in the last round where he flunked with multiple bogeys and ended up with a bad 73.
On the other hand, the 26-year-old Webb Simpson took home his first major championship with pride and dignity.
It is not easy for a young, less experienced golfer to outshine men like Tiger Woods, Luke Donald or Lee Westwood. It was certainly a blissful sight to witness a young man delivering such an amazing effort to win the US Open title.
Woods seemed happy with his play at the US Open and considered the overall performance as a positive step towards him getting back to basics.
The golf course, however, remained an issue for the former champion, as he considered it ‘demanding’.
“I didn’t really miss it that badly this week...the misses were just a fraction off, which is great. This golf course is just so demanding that a fraction off you pay a price,” said Woods.
The US Open has been a disaster for Luke Donald and Rory McIlroy, as they were barely seen in the tournament.
World number one Donald was an absolute disappointment with his swings, which was pretty evident in his early rounds before exiting. He had a little too much pressure on his shoulders, as the entire England was eyeing the poor guy in the US Open.
McIlroy was too sensitive about the course and blamed the field for his bad days at the tournament. On the contrary, McIlroy has been brilliant in the past on similar courses and has done remarkably well.
The Tiger of golf fell short of his so called comeback. He could have blown the critics away with a win at the US Open. However, he registered an average finish at the tournament and it has prolonged his comeback till the British Open.
Simpson was the man of honour at the US Open, while legends fell short by a mile.
