Tiger Woods discovers new injury – Golf news
The fourteen-time major championship winner, Tiger Woods, will be taking a break from competitive golf for a few weeks. The former World Number one discovered that he had injured himself in the Masters tournament played earlier this month. After getting
tests done, it was revealed that Woods sprained the medial collateral ligament in his left knee and his left Achilles.
Not really aware of it before, Woods suffered in his shot as he teed off at the 17th hole of the third round at Augusta National Club. At the time of the tournament, Woods didn’t really notice he had hurt himself. The 35-year-old went to finish
in a decent tie for fourth place at the first major event of the year. Following the tournament, the doctor advised the injured player to rest, cold-weather therapy and soft-tissue treatment for a quick recovery.
Due to the injury, Woods will now miss the Professional Golfers Association (PGA) Tour’s Wells Fargo Championship which is scheduled to take place at the Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte from May 5th till May 8th. The news was confirmed
on the player’s official website. Tiger wrote that he had contacted the tournament officials and opted out because he must follow doctor’s orders to get better.
“Tiger’s absence is unfortunate but Tiger called personally and I thought that was incredibly gracious of him. We had a nice conversation and he said he loves the tournament, loves the feel of it and the way the community embraces the event but he’s going
to have to miss it,” said the tournament director, Kym Houghman.
Wood’s performance in the Masters actually gave a glimpse of the old Woods when he dominated the golf course. The front nine in the final round at Augusta actually had the player in lead at one point in time. With that performance signaling a long awaited
comeback, Tiger’s fans were really looking forward to his next tournament. Woods was especially asked whether he would take part in the Player’s championship, to which the player responded that it all depends on his physical results and the doctor’s orders.
