Tiger Woods doing well at Barclay's Cup
A tiger they say never gives up. After playing his first tournament subsequent to his divorce, Tiger Woods accomplished the best round in the year with a 6-under-par 65 and is now leading in the first round. Using the conditions with a solid ball-striking round, he just missed one fairway and three greens. After rebounding with three more birdies and ending the play by going in seven-footer for birdie at the 18th, his attitude and poise was very evident throughout the first round.
Following the lead of his coach, Tiger was determined to improve the defects in his swing which greatly affected his game. “It was the backswing, the downswing and the follow-through,” Woods said. “Other than that, it was good.” A marriage that lasted for six years and also resulted in a happy and complete family was officially broken on Monday, 23rd August when Tiger Woods announced his divorce with Swedish born Elin Nordegren. His marital relations started getting affect five months prior to that event when a car accident last November unveiled the extra-marital relations that Tiger Woods was involved in with Rachel Uchitel. After publicly claiming that people don’t go into marriage looking for a divorce, Woods is clearly regretting the plethora of mistakes that he did and is affected by his divorce in a big way.
The last championship that Woods played on August 15th was tied and the Barclays tournament lays a open ground for Woods to make the best of this opportunity. Winning this tournament would give Tiger Wood’s the first title for this year. Woods really needs to be on top of his game to stay in playoffs. In addition, his victory at Barclays would also mean that he gets to keep his place as the world number one which can be taken away if Phil Mickelson, the world number two, wins the Barclays tournament.
Also competing with Tiger Woods are Vaughn Taylor, Ryan Palmer and Brian g*y, who are away from first position due to a one or two point difference respectively. The first day was a very good sign for Tiger Woods and all his fans. Woods, who is going through a sad time in his life, is still pretty excited to get back into the game. He tied for fourth position and he drew back from the Player’s championship at the Masters along with the U.S. Open due to a neck injury. When questioned about his bad luck at the Country Club in Paramus, Tiger Wood’s confessed to it not being associated with his personal life whatsoever. Being in the lead at Barclays which is the world’s richest golf circuit, one can boost ones confidence.
The Barclays is also a platform for the U.S. Ryder Cup captain Corey Pavin to pick four players for the team. The decision of the final four will be on September 7. With seven players already selected, those who are not chosen are struggling to make a mark and get noticed by Pavin. Tiger Woods is one of them. As for the other players taking part in the tournament, Paul Casey and Padraig Harrington were also the two that really appealed to Pavin. Making four birdies and two bogeys on his way to 69, Harrington had a good start. Various remarkable players preferred the Barclays tournament over the Johnnie Walker Championship which is taking place at the same time. Ryan Palmer, Brian g*y and Australian Adam Scott were tied for a second, a stroke away from the step. Due to over-sleeping, the world number six U.S. Ryder Cup player Furyk was banned from the Barclays because he missed the Pro-Am event on Wednesday.
The Barclay’s tournament is highly anticipated event with the most talented golfers competing. Not letting his personal life interfere with his career, Tiger Woods with his performance on the first day gave a little preview to all his fans about what he intends on doing. He still hopes to break Jack Nicklaus record of 18 major titles and retrieve the one trophy he’s wanted to own since he was young. With everyone eager to see if Woods still rises above all, the Barclays will be one interesting tournament to follow.
