Tiger Woods enthusiastic about his bid in the upcoming Players Championship at TPC Sawgrass
One of the most-watched players in the Players Championship this week would be none other than the formidable Tiger Woods.
The former world number one will be hoping to turn the tide of his bad run in the recent weeks and probably clinch the title which has eluded him so many times in the past.
In fact he has won the Players only once in his 14 starts which provides considerable ground for raising doubts about Woods’ performance in the star-studded event ahead.
Regardless of the bleak history at TPC Sawgrass, Woods remains confident that he will land the title this week amid the strong line-up of players.
Woods said, “It’s either I’ve done really well, or I haven’t. Either I’ve been right there in contention with a chance, or I haven’t. I think that’s the nature of this golf course”.
Woods suffered injuries in his last two appearances on TPC Sawgrass and had to withdraw in order to avoid aggravating his injuries.
He withdrew from Players Championship in 2010 for a burgeoning neck injury and stayed off course for considerable period of time.
He faced recurring injuries in his left knee and Achilles strain and reappeared in the Players Championship the next year primarily on request of the sponsor of the event.
Barred from playing for the coming week, Wood’s rejected the call of the doctors and went in the tournament only to withdraw after the first opening holes, limping off the course.
Many of the golf critics claim that the tough Pete Dye layout at TPC Sawgrass, does not suit Woods’ style of playing. He has won the event just once in his14 starts.
NBC’s Johnny Miller is one such critic who believes that Woods will not be able to pitch an impressive finish, let alone a victory in the event ahead.
Miller said, “I think it’s going to be one of the harder courses for him to turn it around, but you never know”.
Woods won the Arnold Palmer invitational at Bay hill last month before heading into the first major event of the year only to finish for a disappointing joint 40th.
This was the lowest finish of his career at his favourite hunting ground, the Augusta National where he has gone over to win the title for four times.
