Tiger Woods eyes another victory at The Mines Resort and Golf Club

The 14-time major champion Tiger Woods will return to action at The Mines Resort and Golf Club after 13 years, when he tees of this week at the CIMB Classic, on Thursday, October 25, 2012.
The tournament is co-sanctioned with the Asian Tour, PGA Tour and the Professional Golf Association of Malaysia, featuring 48 players in the field.
The top-10 players in the Asian Tour Order of Merit, along with eight sponsor exemptions, will compete against a strong line-up of 30 players from the PGA Tour.
In 1999, the legendary Woods made his maiden visit to the site of this week’s event and recorded a victory in the World Cup of Golf.
Since then, he never returned to compete in any of the tournaments held at the The Mines Resort and Golf Club.
Right after his confirmation to make his debut in the US$6.1 million event, he has become the centre of attention for the Malaysian media.
After reaching Kuala Lumpur, he posed for a promotional poster in front of the Petronas Twin Towers on Tuesday.
He then participated in a pro-am event held on Wednesday morning, where he partnered with the Malaysian Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Najib Abdul Razak.
Talking to the reporters on Wednesday, he relished the opportunity to play in Kuala Lumpur once again.
He said that the course layout was almost the same and he was optimistic to repeat the heroics of his maiden performance once again.
“Yeah, it's great to be back. It's been a long time,” he said. “The golf course looks the same as it did 13 years ago, but some great memories from playing here”.
“To be able to hold off the Spaniards and to be able win the World Cup, my first one was a lot of fun and having to do it with Mark (O’Meara) was even better,” added Woods.
Talking about the course conditions, he stated that the surface of the course was really soft because of the heavy rains.
“The golf course is in good shape, even though it's got a lot of rain on it. It's very soft. A few mud balls out there. But overall, it's pretty good,” he said.
