Tiger Woods eyes the Masters after confident finish at Honda Open– Golf News
The former world number one and 14-time major winner, Tiger Woods produced the best final-round score of his career in last week’s Honda Classic at PGA National to feel better in preparation for the Masters Tournament, scheduled in the first week of April.
Woods carded a total of four birdies and two eagles in a bogey free round to end two strokes off the leader, Rory McIlroy.
He will now move to Doral Golf Resort & Spa to play the second World Golf Championship of the year, Cadillac Championship.
He aims to perform even better during this tournament, while keeping the Master’s campaign in his mind.
According to Woods, he has been performing reasonably well since his third place finish in the Australian Open last year.
He has brought several changes in his putting technique and has changed his coaches.
Now, he is gaining some momentum and he, therefore, wants to keep the good things going that could earn him his fifth win at Augusta National.
“I am thrilled at the fact that each and every week, my game has gotten better,” he said.
He continued, “Each tournament it is gotten better, and that's the whole idea heading into April. I am excited to have a full schedule leading into it, and on top of that being healthy enough to prepare”.
He went on, “Very pleased at some of the progress I have made, and it is getting better each and every week, which is good”.
“That's what we want to have happen, and ultimately try and peak four times a year, and that's what I'm trying to do,” he added.
In addition to his recent performances, if his record at Augusta is analyzed, he is surely among the favourites to win the first major event of the year.
For the last two years, when he faced the worst downfall in his career, he finished fourth each time in the 2010 and 2011 Masters, among which, the first one came just after one week of his divorce.
Woods is confident that he will improve his place compared to the last two appearances and register his 15th major title win of the career.
