Tiger Woods finds himself in a strange territory
Heading into the BMW Championship, Tiger Woods is in an unfamiliar situation. Last year, the scoring system of the FedEx Cup was amended. The top-30 players who head to the Tour Championship have their points revamped after the BMW Championship.
Basically, it means that after the BMW Championship, all of the thirty players stand on equal ground and any of the top-five can clinch the FedEx Cup title.
Tiger, however, has not experienced such scoring, as injury and poor form prevented him to take part in the events. The former world number one sustained an injury at the 2011 Master.
The injury in the Achilles and tendons forced him to pull out of the playoffs, as he was not fit enough.
"I didn't play last year, I wasn't even in the damned thing so it's nice to be here and be able to contend in this thing," Woods told reporters at Crooked Stick Golf Club.
Tiger is currently ranked number third in the world and in the FedEx Cup rankings as well.
“It's interesting. You can go and win the first three playoff events, finish second in the last one and not win it (the FedEx Cup title). So it's a different type of format, but it's what we have”.
It would be an interesting matchup as everybody will be eyeing the victory. Nobody would be playing for any specific spot, so they will not be playing safe. Everybody will take their own risks to get a victory at the Tour Championship.
"The whole idea is if the guys who are near the top five or just outside the top five win the last two (playoff) events, you know you're going to win it, so the idea is to go out there and get (wins)".
Tiger has already stated his intent that he will just try and get a ‘W’ this week, because at the end of the day this is what matters.
The former world number one has been really impressive so far. Things have improved a great deal for the fourteen-time major winner since last year. He has won thrice this year and another victory would be icing on the cake for him.
