Tiger Woods finishes tied eighth at the WGC-Invitational
The best golfers in the world gathered at one stage to go against each other for the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational. The venue for the four-day event was the Firestone Country Club in Akron, Ohio, USA. The invitational teed off on the 2nd of August
and ended on the 5th of August.
With the end of the tournament comes a champion and in this case, the champion was Keegan Bradley. He played very consistently throughout the four days of the tournament and in the end, was able to bag the trophy.
One of the players under the spot light for the tournament was Tiger Woods. In the invitational, Woods had a chance to become the number one in the official golf ranking once again.
Woods previously has been on the number one spot for a long time. In the year 2010, he had a bit of a downfall and dropped down as low as number 58 in the ranking.
The 14-time major winner got his act together and again started to climb the ranking. Currently he is on the number 2 spot in the world golf ranking, behind the world number one, Luke Donald.
Woods could have been the number one again, he just had to win this tournament and Luke Donald should have been on the third spot or lower.
Despite his recent good form, Woods had a bad start to the tournament. He was not in his usual major winning form. On the first day he completed the course in 70 strokes, this made his score par after the first day.
After the second round, he went two-over par and then on the third day, his total score again came to par as he scored two-under par.
The last day was the best one for Tiger Woods. He had an amazing start to the last round, as he carded four birdies on the front nine. On the back nine, there were only pars. These made his score four-under par for the day and his total score also became
four-under par.
Woods finished the tournament tied on the eighth position with seven other players. He was nine strokes behind the leader of the tournament, Keegan Bradley.
