Tiger Woods gets the final call from Pavin- would carry American dream to Wales
At last, Tiger Woods gets the wild card from Corey Pavin!
This was much awaited news and as a matter of fact it was confirmed beforehand by Tom Grey, the journalist who got into a fight with Corey Pavin over this issue. Grey circulated news that Pavin would keep Tiger Woods on the team no matter what! Although, at first Pavin denied it but after two months, this has turned out to be true.
Tiger is all set to play next month at Celtic Manor with eleven other players including Stewert Cink, Rickie fowler and Zach Johnson. A little detail about the big event; Ryder cup will take place at Celtic Manor from 1st to 3rd October. There will be two teams contesting with 12 players each and they will fight for the trophy that would decide which continent takes the lead in being champion of the world.
Coming back to the original story; despite the fact that the world number one had a terrible season still he is given the pick. But even then, this isn’t something new in golf as wild cards have been given to below average players before also. One example is that of Ray Floyd, who, despite losing his 10 out of 31 games was still given the opportunity to make a cut in the American team.
As for Tiger, he has lost 13 out of 25 events which mean if he loses four more then he will join the league of Floyd. A little about Tiger’s struggling era; ever since getting stuck in the s*x scandal, he hasn’t been able to break the curse of defeat after defeat upon him. Although, he has recently shown significant improvements in his stats, but still Woods has remained winless throughout the season. In fact, for the first time in his career, Tiger hasn’t recorded even a single top 10 finish in six consecutive events.
But despite personal odds, Tiger vowed to bring Ryder cup home the way he did two years back. He told reporters that after getting cut confirmation, the next thing he has his eyes on is the trophy and it would be an honor for him to carry the dreams of America with him to Wales.
Experts hope that choosing Woods wouldn’t be a decision that Pavin will later regret. Tiger is gradually demonstrating his winning streak which is evident from his top 11th finish in the Deutsche Bank Championship 2010. He had scored five points in the last year’s President’s Cup which was one of the worst scores ever made in a major but again that was a different environment as then it was home for the world number one and now it is a matter of national pride along with career revival.
Tiger is expected to play next to Steve Stricker, with whom he had won four out of four matches in Sans Francisco, last year.
