Tiger Woods getting ready for the British Open Championship
The stage is set for the best golfers in the world to fight it out at one of the most prestigious golf courses, the Royal Lytham & St Annes Golf Club in Lancashire, England. This is the 11th time this venue is being used for the Open. The four-day
event starts from the 19th of July and ends on the 22nd of July.
Tiger Woods is one of the players who are going to be under the spot light in the tournament. Despite Woods having only won minors and no majors, he is still one of the favourites for the tournament.
The 36-year-old has already bagged three Claret Jugs, nonetheless, this year he is looking for his fourth one. This could also be his first one in the Royal Lytham & St Annes Golf Club.
He is getting prepared for the Open and is not taking any chances. Woods is practicing for the event which starts this Thursday.
After an overnight flight, Woods landed at the Blackpool airport at 7:30 a.m. on Sunday. By 9 a.m. he was on the course to practice. He played 18 holes with only caddie Joe LaCava.
Woods has played at the Royal Lytham. However, at the time he was an amateur. Woods talked about his game when he played here for the very first time.
He said about the first time he played here was in 1996, "That gave me so much confidence. I tied the amateur record at the time for 72 holes".
"At the time, it gave me confidence that I could do it at a high level. And the fact that I shot that low round -- I made seven birdies in a 12-hole stretch -- I thought for an amateur in a major championship, that was a big step,'' he added.
Now the question is, can Tiger Woods use all that experience and his early practice for the tournament to win it? Over the years, he has proven himself time and again, and has always been able to surprise the spectators. Can he do it again? Only time will
tell.
