Tiger Woods goes back to old-school to improve his putting ahead of the Masters
Tiger Woods has decided to put in more time and effort in his short game and has been practicing to improve his putting ahead of the Honda Classic on the PGA Tour.
The former world number one has been facing serious problems heading into the final round of the events since the start of the current season.
He plays brilliantly over the weekend and while being in contention for the top slot on Sundays, the 14-major-winner usually succumbs to surprise high scores on the final round to fall behind the ranks.
Apparently, Woods is not happy with his short game on the greens and has reverted back to old-school to regain form on the greens.
Woods said, "I spent about almost four hours the other day putting, which was good, two different sessions, two with a meal in between, I just worked on going back to my old basics with my dad, and some of the things that he taught me".
He added, "My posture was off, the way the club was releasing was off. A lot of things were off. It started coming back, the flow and the stroke, and started feeling very good".
The former world number one has also switched back to his old grip on the Nike Method 001 Putter and will be using the Ping grip over it.
Woods revealed that the Ping grip has been phenomenal in helping him sort out his swing vows off the tee.
Woods has played well since the start of the current year and although he has not won an event as yet, he remained in contention for the top-five spots in most of them.
He finished runner-up in his first event of the year, the Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship, failing to overpower the little known Robert Rock of England.
He played well in the Northern Trust Open over the weekend, but failed to land the title in the final round on Sunday.
For the moment, the 36-year-old Woods is struggling to survive the brutal assault from his former coach Hank Haney, who is about to release his long-awaited book, “The Big Miss”, an account related to his years spent with the celebrity golfer.
The book is scheduled to release ahead of the Masters in April this year.
Woods has not won a mainstream title on either side of the Atlantic for more than two years. He won the Chevron World Challenge last year.
However, due to the event not being a designated PGA Tour sanctioned event, he is still widely considered as winless since his last victory in 2009.
The former world number one is currently engaged in Honda Classic on PGA and will be hoping to turn the things for the better ahead of the Masters in Augusta National.
