Tiger Woods’ hope sinks but his putt will not sink
A poor putting display from Tiger Woods means that a mammoth effort would be needed by the American to win The Barclays on Sunday.
Putting has been a cause of concern for the fourteen-time major champion. Throughout the year, he has struggled on the greens. This is one of the reasons why he has not won a major this year, although he has been in sublime form.
Tiger was pretty unhappy with the way the greens were shaped up, he claimed that they were too fast to control but he was not the only one who complaining about the greens.
Tiger three putted four times on Saturday, to three putt four times in a round is crazy. Generally, it would mean that he lost four shots just on the green.
“I played a beautiful round of golf,” he said. “Unfortunately I did not clean up on the greens. I have never seen greens change like this, from what they were yesterday to today. It was unbelievable how fast they got.”
Tiger shot a bizarre round of 72 which left him at T10, six strokes behind Garcia, who is on his way to grabbing his second successive title after his victory at Wyndham.
It is now next to impossible for Tiger to win The Barclays. Coming from six strokes behind, that too when Garcia is in such sublime form, is too tough a task to overcome even by the likes of Tiger Woods.
The Spaniard Sergio Garcia, who has never putted this well, has suddenly found his rhythm, shooting three excellent rounds. However, Garcia has never won a major, which is clearly a big disappointment for a player of his standard.
Tiger Woods is pretty disappointed with himself. Although he has won three times this year but it is not what he had hoped for. Tiger has always set his aims high and it is the major tournaments that he has always targeted.
Currently, Tiger Woods has fourteen majors to his credit but he is chasing the record of his idol, Jack Nicklaus, for the most number of majors won. He is just four majors back but he would need to improve on his putting big time in order to achieve that
feat.
