Tiger Woods hopeful to play the Arnold Palmer Invitational – Golf News
The 14-time major winner, Tiger Woods, is hopeful to play the Arnold Palmer Invitational presented by MasterCard, starting from March 22, 2012, at the Bay Hill Club & Lodge, Orlando, Florida.
Woods injured his left Achilles tendon during the final round of the World Golf Championships – Cadillac Championship on Sunday, March 11, 2012.
"I felt tightness in my left Achilles warming up this morning, and it continued to get progressively worse," Woods said after withdrawing from the event.
He added, "After hitting my tee shot at 12, I decided it was necessary to withdraw. In the past, I may have tried to continue to play, but this time, I decided to do what I thought was necessary".
It was the same injury that sidelined him earlier for several months and he missed two major events in the process of recovering from it.
However, a good news came when Woods tweeted by saying that his doctors have confirmed only a mild strain in the left Achilles.
Therefore, he will be completely fit to be able to hit the balls on the golf course again.
"Got good news from doc tonight," he posted on his Twitter account. "Only mild strain of left Achilles. Can resume hitting balls late in week and hopeful for next week".
The tweet also confirmed that he will be a part of the Masters Tournament’s field, to which he is looking forward to register his 15th major win of his career.
Woods has played a total of five PGA and European Tour events in 2012 and registered a third place finish at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship.
He also secured the second place in the Honda Classic. Overall, he has four top-25 finishes in the 2012 golf season.
Moreover, he was seen in good touch in the recent tournament that he played while returning back to his form with improved swing and putting technique.
Therefore, he is considered to be among the strongest contenders to win the Masters Tournament.
However, he will have to make sure that as soon as he recovers from his Achilles tendon injury, he starts playing normal golf again.
It is expected that Woods will also fix flaws in his swing, as he has been training hard to improve his game.
