Tiger Woods humbled by Jack Nicklaus’ comments – Golf news
Tiger Woods is buoyed by the confidence kept in him by Jack Nicklaus who believes his record of 18 majors will be broken by the 35-year-old American.
The former world number one expressed his gratitude towards the man whom he has been emulating since his amateur days at the practice match held in Doral.
Woods said, “It's nice to have Jack say that - that's something that is very humbling. I respect the heck out of Jack and what he's done and the person he is, and for him to still believe that I can still play top-notch golf it certainly is a confidence-booster,
there's no doubt.”
Woods holds a record of 14 major championships that he attained since he turned pro in 1996 and is continuously striving to match Nicklaus’ record of 18 titles.
However, since the Thanksgiving night in 2009, when Woods drove his car into a fire hydrant, his career progress has halted completely. He has failed to pick any title, lost all the endorsement deals and lost his place at the summit of world golf rankings.
Woods lauded the greatest golfer of all times and said that he gained utmost confidence from the kind remarks showered on him before the Cadillac Championship. The tournament is the second leg of World Golf Championships and carries
550 Fed Ex points.
The current world number five is bidding to end the dry spell in his career by winning the title, however, the critics believe otherwise.
Woods was recently eliminated after the first round of the Accenture Match Play Championship by Thomas Bjorn. Before that, he failed miserably at the Omega Dubai Desert Classic where he finished tied at the 20th spot. Despite
that, Woods is positive and looking forward for a return.
He said, “It was good. Worked a little bit with Sean again on the same things.  I am seeing some really good signs. Unfortunately just haven't been able to carry it to the golf course yet at a consistent level.”
Woods will tee off on 10 March, 2011 at TPC Blue Monster alongside Master Champion Phil Mickelson and US Open winner Graeme McDowell for the Cadillac Championship.
