Tiger Woods improves on his first round’s performance
There was a slight drizzle on Friday as the players took to the field. It was, however, not to disrupt the play, as crowd witnessed another spectacular day of golf.
Graeme McDowell shot a brilliant round of six-under, 66, to take a three-shot lead at the Sherwood Golf and Country Club.
McDowell loves playing at the World Challenge. He has shown some of his best performances during this tournament.
The host, Tiger Woods also improved on his first round’s performance, as he carded three-under for the day. Woods started this tournament slowly.
He carded 70 in this first round, however a decent round of 69 on Friday meant that he is still in contention at the Sherwood Golf and Country Club.
"The greens were so soft, and we had to hit so much club to try and take the spin off the ball ... but you know, all the par-fives were reachable with good drives, and a couple of pins you could use slopes to get the ball close," said the former top ranked
player.
Tiger loves playing in this tournament. He is a five-time former winner of the World Challenge. More importantly, Tiger Woods Foundation hosts this event, so his performance at the event matters immensely.
The former world number one was striking the ball beautifully, as he carded five birdies. Woods started the round beautifully. He birdied the second hole but a bogey on the 8th pegged him back a little.
The American regained his composure after the bogey and shot four birdies on five holes but he again miscued his shot which resulted in a bogey on the 15th.
The bogey on the 15th must have been disappointing for Woods, as he was playing superbly. "I certainly hit the ball a lot better than I did yesterday, made a couple more putts," said Woods.
Tiger must shoot a low round in 60s on Saturday to have any chance of competing on Sunday. He is currently four shots behind the leader, McDowell.
McDowell was magnificent today, as he raised the bar when it was needed.
Brandt Snedeker improved on his first round’s performance and carded four-under, 68. It was a round which was desperately required to put the world number ten’s tournament back on track.
