Tiger Woods in rumour mill yet again - this time due to Twitter
It would appear that the only thing Tiger Woods has accomplished this year is making tabloid headlines. Woods, who has been voted the sports story of 2010 by the Associated Press, has been the centre of media attention since the
end of last year when his car crashed outside his Florida home. With his sordid infidelity scandal now dying down, another rumour about the golfing star shook up the Twitter world last night: that Woods had injured himself while skiing.
A false Tweet about Woods spread like wildfire and had a lot of people believing that the 14-time major championship winner had injured himself while skiing. Golf fans on Twitter got very upset wondering if Woods had hurt his Achilles
tendon once again.
The rumour was, however, proven false when Woods’ agent Mark Steinberg told USA Today that the golfer was fine. USA Today’s golf correspondent Steve DiMeglio then of course wrote a Tweet of his own, reporting that Woods’ agent
had told him that “TW is fine; that he shot EA Sports spot and is hitting balls today ... and did so yesterday and will tomorrow.”
Steinberg also said that Woods hadn’t gone skiing in thee years.
He did however confirm that Woods had received a cortisone shot in his right ankle a week and a half ago, due to soreness from an injury he sustained in 2008. Woods ruptured his Achilles tendon two years ago and Steinberg says
it still causes soreness from time to time.
Steinberg also said that Woods had planned to get the shot right after the Chevron World Challenge, which ended on December 5. Woods will next participate in the Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines in San Diego, starting January
27. Having had a winless 2010, the golfer wanted to be in top shape for the new year.
"This was always the plan," Steinberg said. "He's looking at 2011 as a big year for him."
Meanwhile, Woods’ birthday is just a week away, and he will be turning 35 without a life partner to share the celebrations with. Woods and his wife Elin Nordegren were divorced in August of this year, following revelations of the
golfing star’s many extramarital affairs. Woods’ personal troubles seemed to affect his performance on the course as well, as is evident from his playing record this year.  Having been through so much drama this past year, Woods will surely be looking to make
a comeback in 2011.
