Tiger Woods in the field of Honda Classic after 19 years
Tiger Woods will be playing the upcoming mega event of Honda Classic, scheduled from March 1 to 4, at the amazing venue of the PGA National Champion Course, Palm Beach Gardens.
1993 was the last time he played as an amateur and now the 36-year-old American will be playing his debut professional event at Honda Classic.
"I've heard great things about the Honda Classic and now that I live here in Florida I want to play whenever possible," Woods Said. "Jack Nicklaus's involvement in the tournament and the benefits to the local community are also important".
The Honda Classic was first played in 1972 and since then, it has created a remarkable history.
The total purse is $5,700,000, out of which the winner will earn $1,026,000. It is played on the 70-par course of Florida.
The tournament is huge and getting more attention due to the presence of Woods in the field. The former World No. 1 is a Floridian native. He said that he is keen to play at the event that is of his region.
Woods currently stands at the 20th position at the Official World Golf Rankings. He played only two tournaments this year, one at the European Tour and the other at the PGA.
He started the current season by playing at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship in Abu Dhabi.
He displayed an amazing performance throughout four-day tournament. Although he was unable to win the tournament, he secured the third position remarkably.
Later, he moved to AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am and again showed amazing strokes. His score was an 8-under 278, as he finished tied for the 15th position at the end of the day.
Woods is doing well so far. He is confident and motivated to display some more impressive strokes in the upcoming tournaments.
"I'm excited about my start and look forward to keep building," said Woods. "I've made great strides from last year and hopefully all my hard work will pay off with a victory soon".
Now he is in Arizona, to play the mega event of the Accenture Match Play Championship. His presence is making the field more attractive and competitive.
After completing the World Golf Championship staged event, he will be moving to his residential city Florida, for the Honda Classic, scheduled from March 1 to 4.
