Tiger Woods in the hunt for 15th major title
We are half way through the last major event of the year, the U.S. PGA Championship. The elite players of the world are going head to head at the Kiawah Island Golf Resort, the Ocean Course. The four-day event started on the 9th of August and
is going to end on the 12th of August.
One player who is always under the spotlight in major events is Tiger Woods. Till now the American professional golfer has bagged fourteen major titles. He is four titles behind the Legend Jack Nicklaus, who, in his career, won 18 major titles.
Woods is considered one of the best and has been on the number one spot for quite some while. In 2010, he was going through a bit of a rough patch and in 2011, he fell down as low as 58 in the official golf ranking.
Currently, he is on the number 2 spot in the ranking, just behind the Englishman Luke Donald. Now Woods is looking to be back on the number one spot and winning this major would greatly help his cause.
Woods played very well on the first day. He teed off the front nine with two consecutive birdies on the first two holes. The birdies were followed by a bogey on the fourth hole.
He ended the first nine holes with another birdie towards the end. These made his score three-under par.
On the back nine, Woods managed to score three more birdies on the twelfth, fifteenth and eighteenth hole. On the other hand, he also carded two more bogeys on the thirteenth and fourteenth hole.
The 36-year-old was not able to perform that well on the second day. He did card three birdies but also scored two bogeys. These made his score one-under par after the second round at the Kiawah Island.
These made his total score climb up to four-under par.
Woods is tied on top of the table with Vijay Singh and Carl Pettersson. These three players are followed by Ian Poulter, who managed to score three-under par after the first two rounds and has currently occupied the fourth spot.
