Tiger Woods is back, will play the Tavistock Cup
Tiger Woods has said that he will play a two-day exhibition tournament, the Tavistock Cup, scheduled to start from March 19 to 20, 2012.
Recently, the 36-year-old American was injured during the final round of the Cadillac Championship, staged by World Golf Championship in Doral Miami.
He sustained an Achilles Heel injury and withdrew from the mega event. He has been on a lay-off period since then, and is now returning to golf by participating in the Tavistock Cup.
His doctors worked hard and made him ready for the golf again. He practised on Friday, March 16, to check whether he can play or not and amazingly he was perfectly fine while hitting the balls.
"Look forward to competing," Woods said. "I'm playing very well. It's all starting to come together".
Now he has recovered and is eyeing the Masters to be played this year. He wants to be the successful champion of the major this year.
He has won 14 major titles in his career and is hoping to win the 15th one in 2012.
The Tavistock Cup will give him a better opportunity to improve his performance. Similarly, after this amazing mega prize event, he will be also playing the Arnold Palmer Invitational, from March 22 to 25.
"I'll be there, don't worry about it," Woods said. "The leg’s good now. I took a couple of days off, got some treatment on it. I got the go-ahead to start hitting balls [Friday] and start ramping up and get ready for Bay Hill".
The Tavistock Cup has all the top leaders in the field. It is not an official event and has a huge purse of $2,170,000.
Lake Nona Golf & Country Club will be hosting this mega event in Orlando, Florida.
There are four teams that will compete against each other. Woods will be representing the Albany team this year and will play against the Isleworth, Lake Nona and Queenwood.
Some renowned players to play along Woods are Bubba Watson, Justin Rose, Charles Howell, Ben Curtis, Peter Hanson, Ernie Els, Adam Scott, Thomas Bjorn, Graeme McDowell and Greg Norman.
Woods' appearance is making the tournament more appealing and competitive. He has been struggling since January and is also working hard to be in the top-10 world rankings.
