Tiger Woods is now the world number 16, Rory McIlroy is on top
Tiger Woods has reached the 16th position in the Official World Golf Rankings, after finishing the Honda Classic as runner-up.
He performed extremely well in the final round of the tournament, staged by US based Professional Golf Association, at the Floridian site of the PGA National Champion Course, Palm Beach Gardens.
The 36-year-old American carded four birdies and two impressive eagles. His superb performance helped him to finish the tournament on the second position.
His overall three-round performance was average. He was on the 18th position on Saturday and surprisingly boosted his scores by such appealing strokes in the final round on Sunday.
Ernie Els praised the amazing performance by the former No. 1, who entertained all the spectators and other field players.
"To me, it was the old Tiger back, the guy that I remember," said Els, who finished on the 21st position. "He never missed a shot or made a bad swing".
Woods' final score was a 10-under par and 270 strokes in total. He was only two strokes behind the leader Rory McIlroy.
He earned handsome figures of $501,600 and 500 FedEx points as well, and almost after three years, he was able to land in the top-20.
McIlroy is the proud winner of the Honda Classic and he has now become the world’s No.1 golfer. He snatched the top position from Luke Donald by winning the Floridian event.
The 22-year-old Northern Irish professional scored a 12-under 268. He displayed an amazing performance and was consistent, making good scores throughout the four-day match.
He has been striving since January and lost a golden chance to become the No. 1 at the World Golf Championships-Accenture Match Play Championship.
He finished second and failed to achieve the top ranking. However, he proved to be the best golfer of the world at the Honda Classic.
Luke Donald has now dropped to the 2nd position in the OWGR, as he failed to continue his winning streak of 2011 and has been incompetent since January.
He praised the young Irishmen and said on Twitter, "Congrats @McIlroy Rory enjoy the view!"
Now, Woods and McIlroy are enjoying their improved rankings, whereas Donald is thinking of regaining his lost glory at the upcoming event of the WGC-Cadillac Championship at Doral, from March 8 to 11.
