Tiger Woods looking to be the number 1 again
Undoubtedly Tiger Woods is one of the best golfers on the face of the earth. He has no parallel in the golfing world. He has achieved more than any other player.
Till now he has he has bagged 101 professional wins. He has also won 14 major titles and still has a few good years left in which he can do much more.
Woods turned professional in the year 1996 and, in 1997, he bagged his first major title. He gave a record breaking performance. In the same year, he reached the number one spot in the World Golf Ranking.
Tiger Woods occupied the number one spot for about 623 weeks. For the last ninety weeks the position has been occupied by Luke Donald, Rory McIlroy, Martin Kaymer or Lee Westwood.
Currently, Luke Donald is on the number one spot and he is followed by Tiger Woods. Rory McIlroy and Lee Westwood are on third and fourth place, respectively.
Tiger Woods is eyeing the number one spot once again. He can be the number one again. He just needs to bag the upcoming World Golf Championships-Bridgestone Invitational which is taking place at Firestone in Akron, Ohio.
Woods will only be number one if he wins the Invitational and Luke Donald finishes on the 3rd position or worse.
The 36-year-old is well aware of this magnificent opportunity and is planning to grasp it. In an interview he said, “It would be nice to get back there because obviously it meant that as far as I had dropped, to build my way back up to this point, I’ve had
some wins, I’ve had some very high finishes, I’ve been consistent. That’s how you get to be one of the top players in the world”.
In the year 2010, Woods was going through a real rough patch. He fell as low as 58 in the ranking. Despite that, he is back on number two. “To be ranked as low as I did and then come all the way back to, as of right now, No. 2, that’s pretty good,” he added.
