Tiger Woods makes a slow start at the Wells Fargo Championship – Golf News
Tiger Woods carded a one-under par in the opening round of the Wells Fargo Championship at the Quail Hollow Club to tie for the 56th place on Thursday, May 3, 2012.
Woods did not make a good start that his fans were expecting at Quail Hollow, as he suffered a bogey on the par-four first hole. Yet, he managed to score a birdie on the very next hole he played.
“Well, getting off to a positive start, and I bogeyed the first hole right out of the gate,” he said.
On the par-three sixth hole, he missed the par putt and went for another bogey. He bounced back once again, with a birdie on the seventh hole to level the score to par.
At the end of the front nine, Woods was one-over, as he carded a bogey on the ninth hole. Birdies on the 13th and 15th holes took him to one-under par for the round.
“I did play good on the back. I gave up too many shots on the front nine, though,” the 14-time major winner said. “I didn't get up-and-down a couple times and made a couple bad shots on the wrong side of the hole. Even on 10, you can't miss it right, and
I missed it right”.
“I've just got to play the par 5s better and obviously miss them on the correct sides. I just didn't do that today,” he added.
Woods is playing the first event on the PGA Tour since his appearance in the Masters Tournament where he earned the worst ever finish of his career, as he tied for the 40th position at the end of the tournament.
He was among the favourites to win the Masters because of his pre-tournament form. He entered the event with a win in the Arnold Palmer Invitational.
He faltered and decided to take some weeks off before returning back to the field of the Wells Fargo Championship.
Woods believes that he has improved his swing technique in the past few weeks, which will help him make a good finish in the tournament.
